Childrens Work : Year 3 and 4

Years 3 and 4

As children go into Year 3 they begin their time in Key Stage Two. Years 3 and 4 work very closely together and follow the same topics over a two year cycle, though obviously at a level of difficulty to suit individual children.

Every October, before the half term holiday, the year 4 children go on a three day residential visit to Robin Hood’s Bay, where they stay in The Old School House in the village.  The children participate in rock pooling, walking, smuggling activities (nothing illegal!), and fossil hunting, amongst others. This visit is an amazing experience for the children and one they always look back on fondly when they leave our school. Alongside this, the Year 3 children study the Moortown area and, together, the Years 3 and 4 team culminate these topics in a joint presentation for families.

Other highlights in Years 3 and 4 include topics such as The Romans and The Victorians, which are interactive ,providing first hand experiences with artefacts, visitors and trips.

The school allotment is an important aspect of the Years 3 and 4 enriched curriculum. To date, the children have grown, eaten and sold their own potatoes, raspberries, carrots, parsnips, leeks, beans and giant pumpkins ,amongst others.  The children also like to keep an eye on the school pond and watch as the minibeasts in and around it grow and change over the seasons.

As the children improve their cursive handwriting, this is the time when they will, when ready, be asked to move from pencil to pen, a sign that your little one is not so little anymore!
