Walking Bus
The Highfield Walking Bus was set up in May 2000 by a group of parents on a purely voluntary basis. It operates five mornings a week throughout term time and walks from West Park Drive West (at the top of Kingswood Crescent), along Shadwell Walk, across the Ring Road to Sandringham Approach and on to school. On a typical morning we have around 15 children and 3 adults on the Bus.
The aims of the Walking Bus are to promote fitness by walking to school, to develop road safety awareness and pedestrian skills, to reduce traffic congestion and pollution around the school gate and above all to provide an enjoyable and sociable journey to school.
Parents of children who walk with the Bus are expected to be involved in some capacity, primarily by walking with the Bus on at least one morning a week. There is also a Committee to oversee the running of the scheme.
The more help we have, the less we all have to do!
Application forms are available from the School Office. Alternatively you can find out more by talking to one of the Walking Bus Volunteers.

STEPS
Steps to Excellence for Personal Success (STEPS) is a development programme which has earned a reputation as a powerful tool for individuals and groups. The programme helps individuals to see how much they are truly capable of achieving and offers the tools to make it happen.
This course was initiated by The Pacific Institute which works with communities and organisations using interventions that place the individual at the heart of the improvement process. The Pacific Institute now work in over 50 countries and is at the leading edge in assisting individuals to develop their thinking skills, thereby impacting on the performance of their teams, organisations and communities. The programmes are offered to people of all ages and in a broad variety of contexts, focusing on how the mind works, goal-setting and the unlocking of potential.
Education Leeds supports this new initiative and have funded the training of over 130 facilitators to deliver STEPS. Highfield staff and parents have been trained by The Pacific Institute as STEPS facilitators.
